BeeEducated is a not-for-profit, community-based education programme whose mission is to increase the numbers of European honeybee (Apis mellifera) colonies in Greater Manchester. We educate local residents, committees and businesses on how to keep and sustain healthy and productive colonies. We are committed to improving bees' prolificacy and propensity for hard work and resistance to disease; developing beekeepers' understanding to work with and react to environmental change through selection and breeding.
BeeEducated is not just for beginners! Beekeepers return year on year to improve their knowledge, practice skills, network and share ideas and best practice.
Situated at Walton Road Allotments in Sale, this is our newest apiary. It is also our smallest apiary with only 4 places for new beekeepers so it is very likely that the places will go fast. Book now!
Located behind the Co-Op supermarket on Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton at the Riverbank Community Garden. This Apiary was started in 2017 and delivered its first training group here in 2018. There are 6 working colonies which provide 12 places to trainee and returning beekeepers.
Our longest established apiary is situated in the paddock at Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary. BeeEducated started here in 2014 and took its first trainees in 2015. There are now 9 working colonies which provide 18 places to trainee and returning beekeepers.
