Assessment

Assessment follows the competence being claimed.

Practical performance is evidenced practically. Knowledge and judgement are explored through authentic activity, questioning, professional discussion and longitudinal records.

VARCS

Evidence must be Valid, Authentic, Reliable, Current and Sufficient. No single evidence type dominates where that would weaken the assessment decision.

Competency Passport

Progress is shown as Not yet demonstrated, Partially demonstrated or Sufficient evidence so learners and mentors can see what remains to be evidenced.

Assessor judgement

Mentors support learning and may authenticate activity, but they do not decide whether a competency is sufficient. That remains an assessor and quality-assurance function.

1

Build competence

Learn, practise and work with colonies over time.

2

Gather authentic evidence

Use video, photographs, records, products, observations and spoken explanation linked to genuine activity.

3

Assessor review

Evidence is mapped to competencies and KSBs, with gaps identified and further evidence planned.

4

Gateway

All mandatory competence must be sufficiently evidenced before the final assessment.

5

End Point Assessment

A final synoptic assessment supports a Pass, Merit or Distinction decision.
