The Practical Beekeeper Programme is designed around the reality that beekeeping competence develops across seasons and cannot be compressed into a weekend.
Typical completion window: 14–36 months
The window is deliberately flexible. Progress depends on the learner’s starting point, access to colonies, seasonal opportunities and the quality of evidence gathered. Time served does not equal competence.
The programme cycle
- Learn it — structured online learning and knowledge checks.
- Practise it — practical development with real colonies.
- Demonstrate it — evidence gathered through naturally occurring activities.
- Get certified — End Point Assessment after the portfolio gateway.
Annual competency update
After certification, BeeEducated plans a free annual online update focused on material changes to bee health, biosecurity, invasive species, Varroa management, selling rules and the BeeEducated Standard. The original certification remains a historical achievement; CPD status shows whether the annual update is current.
